From Delhi to the Savannah
In May 2024, I led five enthusiastic wildlife lovers—each on their first African safari—on a 6-night adventure through the iconic Masai Mara.

Our Masai Mara Trip started with a late-night flight from Delhi via Mumbai to Nairobi. After an early morning arrival, we began our road transfer to the Mara, stopping midway for a hearty breakfast. Excitement was high as we entered the land of endless grassland.
Stay at a Riverside Camp
Our camp was tucked along a scenic riverbank, completely surrounded by greenery. It offered a peaceful and immersive natural experience that instantly won everyone’s hearts.

A special Indian-style lunch, freshly prepared by the chef on request, was a comforting and delicious surprise. Warm rotis, sabzi, dal, and a sweet dish—it felt like home in the middle of the wild.
Day 1 of Masai Mara Trip – Golden Hour with Lions
That afternoon, we headed out on our first safari. Within the hour, we encountered a lion pride resting in soft golden light—cubs tumbling, mothers grooming, and the dominant male scanning the plains.
- Herds of zebras and impalas
- The dazzling Superb Starling perched on a branch
- Wide-open savannah landscapes glowing in the evening sun

Days 2–5 of Masai Mara Trip – Full-Day Game Drives
For four straight days, we did full-day safaris, starting before dawn and returning at dusk. Each day offered something unforgettable:
- Lion Hunt: A pride attempted to hunt a young elephant calf—an intense moment.
- Cheetah Chase: A high-speed impala hunt ending in a clean kill.
- Leopard in Tree: Calm and composed, with a fresh kill in its grasp.
- Hyena Kill: The pack worked with chilling coordination.
- Large Mammals: Elephants, giraffes, wildebeests, and ostriches filled the landscape.

Birdlife Highlights
While our main focus was on big cats and dramatic wildlife moments, Masai Mara’s birdlife quietly stole the show. From brilliantly coloured starlings and rollers to powerful raptors circling overhead, the diversity was remarkable. We noted dozens of species during our drives and at the camp itself.

Day 6 – A Cultural Finish
On the final day, we visited a Maasai village, where guests experienced traditional songs, dances, and crafts. It was a deeply enriching experience that added cultural texture to the wildlife adventure.
Post-village, we began our journey back to Nairobi. We made a final stop to shop for souvenirs—beaded jewellery, wooden crafts, tribal masks—each guest took home a token of the Mara.

Reflections
For our guests, this was more than just a trip—it was a powerful and emotional encounter with nature in its rawest form. From lions glowing in the golden light to cheetahs in full sprint, from the rhythm of Maasai songs to the calm of riverside mornings, Masai Mara Trip delivered on every promise—and more.
The bonds formed, the stories shared around the campfire, and the silence during breathtaking sightings made this journey unforgettable. Most of our guests are already planning their return—this time with family and friends—to relive the magic once again.
