When you travel with World of Wild, you don’t just tick destinations off a list — you experience the forest the way it is meant to be felt. Every rustle of leaves, every call of a bird, and every paw print on the trail tells a story, and our role is to help you understand that story.
Over the years, we’ve led travelers into some of India’s and Africa’s most pristine landscapes — from the Himalayan birding paradise of Sattal to the tiger territories of Central India and the vast savannas of Masai Mara. Each place is unique, but what remains constant is our approach: authentic, ethical, and deeply personal.
Our small-group tours ensure you have the space to observe, learn, and photograph without disturbance. We encourage mindful travel — slowing down, listening, and absorbing the rhythm of the forest rather than rushing through it.
At WOW, we believe seeing is believing. When you witness how birds raise their chicks or how animals live in harmony without technology, you begin to understand nature’s hidden intelligence. And once you see it, you can never look at the natural world the same way again.

What people want to know about Sattal
Why is Sattal famous for birdwatching?
Sattal, near Nainital in Uttarakhand, is a paradise for birdwatchers. The mix of oak and pine forests, freshwater lakes, and altitude of about 1,300 meters create the perfect habitat for over 200 bird species. From colorful barbets and flycatchers to rare owls and migratory species, Sattal offers year-round birding opportunities.
Additionally, the well-placed bird hides in Sattal provide an ideal setting for undisturbed birdwatching and photography, ensuring you capture every unique moment.
What birds can be seen in Sattal?
In my trip reports from Sattal, I’ve spotted species like the Red-billed Blue Magpie, Common Green Magpie, Himalayan Ruby-throat, Rufous Sibia, Slaty-headed Parakeet, Crested Kingfisher, Tawny Fish Owl, and multiple species of woodpeckers. During winter, migratory birds like Thrushes and Warblers are a highlight.
Which is the best season for birding in Sattal?
Birding in Sattal is good throughout the year, but the peak seasons are:
March to June: Breeding season with lots of activity and colorful plumage.
October to February: Migratory season when many Himalayan and Eurasian birds arrive.
How many days are enough for a birding trip in Sattal?
A minimum of 3 to 4 days is recommended. Bird activity is best during early mornings and late evenings, and staying multiple days increases your chances of seeing rarer species.
What camera gear is best for Sattal bird photography?
A telephoto lens (400mm or above) is ideal for bird photography in Sattal. I personally use a Canon R3 with a 400mm f/2.8 prime, but even a 100–400mm zoom works well here. A tripod or monopod can be handy for stability, especially near hides.
Where should one stay in Sattal for birdwatching?
Several homestays and lodges around Sattal cater to birdwatchers. Choosing accommodation close to birding trails or hides saves travel time and allows you to start early in the morning.
