WHY VISIT KANHA?

Kanha Tiger Reserve is ideal for travellers who want more than a tiger-focused safari. Its sal forests, open meadows and water bodies support Bengal tigers, hard-ground barasingha, gaur, dhole and varied birdlife. From our field experience, Kanha’s greatest strength is the opportunity to observe and photograph wildlife within its wider habitat, rather than concentrating only on close sightings. The combination of wildlife, landscapes and well-developed safari infrastructure makes Kanha especially rewarding for first-time safari travellers, families and serious wildlife photographers. Kanha is also recognised as one of India’s original Project Tiger reserves by the National Tiger Conservation Authority.

  • Excellent opportunities to observe and photograph Bengal tigers
  • Principal stronghold of the hard-ground barasingha
  • Sal forests and meadows for wildlife-in-habitat photography

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The cost depends on the duration, accommodation category, safari permits, number of drives and vehicle-sharing arrangement. WOW’s 2-night/3-day fixed-departure package costs ₹26,500 per person plus 5% GST on twin sharing. It includes four jeep safaris, accommodation, meals and return transfers from Jabalpur. Private tours with custom dates and upgraded stays are priced separately.

There is no single best zone on every visit. Kanha, Kisli, Mukki and Sarhi offer different habitats and wildlife opportunities, while animal movement changes daily. Zone selection depends on permit availability, current wildlife activity and the location of your lodge. Multiple safaris across more than one zone usually provide a more complete experience than concentrating only on one popular zone.

Plan at least four safaris during a 2-night stay. Six safaris over 3 nights provide more time to explore different zones, follow changing wildlife activity and work with varied light conditions. No safari can guarantee a tiger sighting, so additional drives improve your opportunities while allowing you to experience Kanha’s wider landscape and wildlife.

Tigers can be seen throughout Kanha’s main tourism season. March to June generally offers better visibility as vegetation becomes drier and animals visit water sources more frequently. November to February provides cooler weather, attractive landscapes and more comfortable safaris. The right period depends on whether your priority is tiger visibility, photography, birding or overall comfort.

Choose Kanha for its sal forests, open meadows, hard-ground barasingha and a more varied wilderness experience. Tadoba has a drier landscape and is often chosen by travellers focused on intensive tiger tracking, particularly in the hotter months. Kanha is especially rewarding for habitat photography and a broader wildlife experience. The right choice depends on your dates, photographic priorities and preferred landscape.

Choose accommodation according to your safari gate, not only its price or category. Kanha has economical hotels, comfortable premium lodges and high-end wilderness stays. Before booking, check whether your permits use Khatia, Mukki or Sarhi Gate. A lodge on the wrong side of the reserve may add substantial travel before morning safaris.

WOW’s 2-night/3-day Kanha Tiger Reserve safari package includes twin-sharing accommodation, meals, return transfers from Jabalpur and four jeep safaris. The price is ₹26,500 per person plus 5% GST. Safari zones depend on permit availability. The confirmed itinerary will specify the accommodation, meals, pickup timings, safari arrangements and exclusions.

Yes. Kanha Tiger Reserve offers a rewarding introduction to Indian wildlife because the experience extends beyond tiger sightings. Its meadows, forests, barasingha, gaur, deer, birds and other wildlife keep each safari engaging. Families should be comfortable with early starts, open-jeep drives and uneven forest tracks. Winter is generally the most comfortable period, although mornings can be cold.
