Jawai is located in Rajasthan’s Pali district, between Udaipur and Jodhpur. The landscape is formed by granite hills, caves, scrubland, farms and village commons used by both wildlife and local communities. Jawai is worth visiting for its distinctive leopard-tracking experience, open landscapes, photography opportunities, raptors and pastoral culture. It is quieter and visually different from the conventional gated reserves included among our wildlife safaris in India.
No. Jawai is neither a national park nor a tiger reserve. The wider landscape includes the officially notified Jawaibandh Conservation Reserve and Jawai Bandh Leopard Conservation Reserve-II. Leopards also move through adjoining rocky and human-used landscapes. Jawai therefore does not operate exactly like a conventional national park with fixed tourism gates and tiger-reserve zones. Wildlife tourism must still follow current conservation regulations and local access conditions. The protected areas are listed by the Rajasthan Forest Department.
Leopard population estimates published online vary considerably, and there is no stable official number that should be used to promise sightings. Leopards are territorial animals that move across a wider landscape rather than remaining within one tourism area. Experienced local trackers understand regularly used caves, outcrops and movement routes, creating rewarding opportunities for observation. However, no responsible operator can guarantee a leopard sighting. Multiple morning and evening safaris improve the overall opportunity, but every encounter remains natural.
Jawai does not normally follow the fixed annual closure pattern of many tiger reserves and can generally be visited throughout the year. August to March provides the most comfortable conditions. August to October brings greener monsoon and post-monsoon landscapes, while November to February offers cool weather, winter birdlife and pleasant photography conditions. March can remain productive as temperatures begin rising. Peak summer, particularly May to July, becomes extremely hot and is generally best avoided. Safari access remains subject to weather and current local regulations.

The package includes pickup and drop from Falna Railway Station, accommodation, all meals and four guided leopard safaris in an open 4×4 vehicle. A two-night, three-day Jawai tour with four safaris is a practical minimum. Three nights with six safaris provide more time to explore different rocky landscapes and respond to changing leopard movement. Wildlife photographers may prefer four nights with up to eight morning and evening drives. Additional safaris increase your time in the field but cannot guarantee a sighting. The ideal duration depends on your photography priorities, wider Rajasthan itinerary and preference for a relaxed or safari-intensive programme.
Jawai leopard safaris are normally conducted during the early morning and late afternoon in open 4×4 vehicles. A safari typically lasts approximately 2.5–3 hours, although exact departure times change with the season, weather and current regulations. Local trackers select suitable areas according to recent leopard movement rather than following a rigid national-park zone system. World of Wild normally recommends no more than four guests per jeep for comfortable viewing and photography. Night safaris, spotlighting and drone use should not form part of a responsible Jawai itinerary.

Mugger Crocodiles occur around Jawai Dam, although crocodile viewing is a secondary experience rather than the principal focus of a leopard safari.
